Encouraging Cats to Co-exist

Sylvia and Wayne were concerned over the dynamic between gentle Cali and new boy, Chester. Cali was spending more time away from home and they were concerned for her safety. Sylvia had also persisted for several months, trying to transition Cali to a raw diet, but Cali refused and Sylvia had given up on the idea. Fortunately, this came up in our initial consult, so we added it to our “wish list”.

Chester was taking over the household and being a bit of a bully toward Cali. He was also hurting her and his humans with his sharp claws, and Sylvia asked me to please explain to him that this was the reason for trimming his nails.

Sylvia opted for the comprehensive communication for each of the cats and this was her feedback:

I was more than thrilled with Karen’s sessions with my two adopted cats.

Karen’s sessions revealed that both cats were stressed – Cali internalised hers while Chester was very vocal. She explained to each cat they were equally loved. Cali was told to stand her ground more, because she had our support, and Chester was told to give her space and respect her as a member of the household.

Since the communication, we have taken steps to gently remind Chester to be more confident in our love for him and he has definitely become more relaxed. He has totally stopped grabbing us with his sharp claws exposed, which was causing problems for Cali and my husband, Wayne, who has skin that easily bruises and bleeds. We knew he didn’t mean us harm and are pleased he has completely taken Karen’s request, on our behalf, on board.

Cali is feeling more secure and confident, acknowledging that we are keeping a watch that Chester gives her space – and supporting her if he does not. She was staying away from home much of the time and is now spending more time in the garden, in the house and in the same room as Chester. She has also become more affectionate and has even taken to having raw food, which we know is better for her than pellets, and she had previously adamantly refused.

We intend to have both cats manipulated (chiropractic) by Wendy at Animal Antics, which we have done before, but Karen also picked up some issues with paws and backs and hips with them both and we know cats in particular can put bones out because of the things they get up to.

We are so grateful for Karen’s insights of our furbabies  – it’s helped us understand their personalities and to care for them so much better.

It was great she not only gave us a verbal review of her session with each of them, but a written one that we can refer back to, because one doesn’t remember all the info she gives you otherwise. I found the written document very informative and worth having.

Thanks so much, Karen.

Sylvia and Wayne Ferguson.

Since her feedback, Sylvia has reported that things continue to improve between her kitties. Well done, Sylvia and Wayne, for caring enough to explain and to listen. It’s little wonder both your kitties chose you!
